Initial contact
The first contact takes usually place by telephone conversation with one of our business-coaches whom will ask You some initial questions to try form a picture of the idea. Assuming that the ideas match Chalmers Innovation's criteria the business-coach will set up a meeting, where more questions about the idea will be asked, just to get a more clear vision surrounding the methods of creating Your idea. The most easy way to reach the business-coaches is by email.
If You are a researcher or a doctoral studentwe recommend you to apply for the Chalmers Innovation grant and that you participate in the researcher's program.
Perusal
Now begins the perusal for a possible acceptence of the idea to the Pre-incubator program at Chalmers Innovation. The criteria for the acceptence of an idea to the pre-incubator are uniqueness, global growth potential, technologically based and that there is a genuine will from the inovators to start a growth venture.
The project gets accepted to the pre-incubator after perusal of a business-coach, through meetings together with a written idea description.
All exchange of information between the idea carrier and Chalmers
Innovation is strictly confedential. When the business-coach has made a first
assessment of the idea and otehr material, the innovator presents his/hers idea
to the Chalmers Innovation Acceptence Committee. The Acceptence Committee is
composed by all business-coaches, together taking the decision of future
collaboration. The decision consists of: the cooperations future conditions, goals
to be obtained during the period and the amount of capital contributed to the
project during this period. Together with the inventor the share ownership of
Chalmers Innovation is fixed. After the presentation the inventor and Chalmer
innovation have six weeks to write the specific contracts and agree on
milestones.
Acceptence decision
The acceptence decision will be announced by the coach that You
have been in contact with, during the evalution phase, a latest one week after
the decision was made. The normal period of time a project is in the
pre-incubator program is six months but this can vary depending on different
goals and milestones during set up for the period. The goals are divided into
two types, the overall and the specific. The overall goals, concerning all
companies, should be set up, business models evaluated, markets varified,
technology sustantiated and a business plans written. Because of the diversity
of the companies, specific goals will also be set up
Start
The first thing that happens is that a coach is appointed to handle the communication and contact with Your idea. You will have regualar meetings to urge forward the comercialization process. Next step is a detailed activity plan for the pre-incubation period with the purpose of more effectively obtaining the goals.
Besides developing the business concept according to a structures
process, an individual plan for everyone in the project will be made. The
purpose is to stimulate a continous development of competence by implementing
Chalmers Innovation's specially suited educational program. We also conduct any
possible recruitment during this process. Chalmers Innovation has the
opportunities to recruit project managers as complements to those areas that
the innovator has little possiblities of conductiong activities. During this
period of time the project is managed from one of Chalmers Innovation centers.
Continue
The work during the pre-incubation process constitutes a way of effectively increase the value of the idea presented, during a finite period. If the goals are achieved and the joint work is going well there is a possibility to extend the collaboration with Chalmers Innovation ina the Incubator program.
The incubator process demands, as the pre-incubator, a technologically based idea and entreprenurial management. In addition to this a comprehensive business plan and the formal legal structures of a Corporation is demanded. The goals in the incubator phase are to obtain repeatabel business, customers on a new market, a developed organization including a professional board of directors and long-term finanicing. A n Acceptence Committee with external members (not emplyed at Chalmers Innovation) are in charge of the decision making. Of course is preceded by the will of the comapny to extend the collaboration with Chalmers Innovation.
Chalmers Innovation has the possibility to, in seperate negotiations, invest ana additional 300,000 SEK during the incubator period in exchange for more ownership shares.
